Make sure you bring all of the necessary documents with you so we can help you get your maximum refund.
If you don’t have a Social Security number, you will need an ITIN – an Individual Tax Identification Number – to complete your returns. See link to apply for an ITIN number.
If you are a resident alien and need an ITIN click here.
If you are a US citizen and need a Social Security number click here.
If you don’t have a photo ID, contact your local secretary of the state office.
If you don’t have a social security card, contact your local social security office.
If you don’t have a copy of your previous year’s tax return documents:
Call your local Vita associate at (877) 337-1780 for a copy of these documents.
If UWCSMI VITA program did not complete your previous year’s tax return- reach out to the paid preparer or login to the self-preparation software, you used to prepare the return to obtain a copy of these documents.
If neither of the above options work, go to IRS.gov or call 1800-829-1040 to obtain these documents.

or call (517) 636-4486. Please note that you will need to provide your social security number, last name, the tax year you are providing information on, your AGI or Total Household Resources, and your filing status, all of which can be found on the Michigan 1040.

To inquire on the status of a federal refund please visit
or call (1800) 829-1040. Please note that you will need to indicate the tax year you are inquiring about and provide your social security number, filing status, and refund amount, all of which can be found on your Federal 1040.
Please note that VITA cannot address any processing delays, but if you have any issues finding information through these systems, please contact your local VITA associate.

6. Grant Funding: Grant opportunities to secure additional funding for the VITA program, ensuring its continued success and expansion into underserved communities.
7. Collaborative Research Initiatives: Collaborate on research initiatives related to financial inclusion and tax-related challenges, contributing valuable insights that can inform future program enhancements.
8. Training and Development Workshops: Offer training workshops and seminars for VITA clients to aid in keeping them informed about financial best practices and resources available.
